How can we better use data to inform educational decision making and improve learning outcomes?

Dr Markus Gehrsitz (Department of Economics) and Dr Edward Sosu (School of Education), both researchers at the University of Strathclyde, will provide an overview of how data can be exploited to help inform educational decision making.  The  researchers will draw on their ongoing research as well as international evidence, and in particular how administrative data can inform education policy, teaching, and learning in Scotland and beyond...

Topics will include the use of composite classes to generate positive peer effects; the adverse effects of school absenteeism on academic achievement; creating parental engagement by way of text messaging and educational inequalities in times of Covid-19.

Presentations will be followed by a Q&A session.

This event is open to all stakeholders in education such as policy makers, school administrators, teachers, parents, and the general public.
