Strathclyde Business School's Department of Work, Employment and Organisation is delighted to host Dr Joanna Kocsis for a seminar on 'Art as Research: Opportunities for E/Affective Knowledge Production'
Arts based research (ABR) can be an effective tool for addressing power imbalances in the knowledge production process by bringing the theoretical and epistemological shifts of the ‘affective turn’ into the material work of research. ABR is uniquely positioned to disrupt the power/knowledge relationship of positivist theories “that treat production of knowledge as a function of social privilege” (Finley, 2008: 4).
Creative methods can create opportunities in which knowledge can be understood not as fixed and universal, but instead as social, created, performed and resistant. In this workshop, we will discuss the ways in which different creative research methods produce different types of knowledge and will practice their use together so bring your questions, hopes, fears and research ideas!!
To register for the event, please email sbs-weo@strath.ac.uk indicating if you would like to attend in person or online via Zoom.
