Abstract:

The signifier of this talk is the content of the forthcoming book Ironies of Organizational Change.  The attached Book Cover (please email sbs-weo@strath.ac.uk for book cover) provides a basic introduction and recommendations from leading organization studies scholars on its contribution, and the Edward Elgar website link provides additional content and critical acclaim (and web-site link (https://www.e-elgar.com/shop/usd/ironies-of-organizational-change-9781786437716.html).

The signified, the present talk, treats this book as an experiment in exploring how we can both deepen and make entertaining and accessible the more profound insights of organizational studies. In a recent paper in JMH on James March and the Poetry of Leadership, Richard sought to capture the twinkle in the eye of James March in his debunking of the over-seriousness of how we talk about and act in organizations. The book, and this talk, attempt to be something of a footnote in this enterprise of fostering a greater lightness of being in how we think, act in and lecture about organizational life.
