Abstract: This research contributes methodological considerations for a trauma-informed approach to research design, data collection, analysis and presentation when working with Excluded, Marginalized and Vulnerable (EMV) populations. I suggest that by adopting a trauma-informed approach to the research process, researchers can contribute to ending epistemic injustice experienced by many EMV populations while also creating new hermeneutical resources available to society. In this presentation, I will define trauma-informed practices through four guidelines and provide an example of trauma-informed approaches in action in my own research on parents with neurodivergent children who cannot attend school. I will present a series of questions and ideas for researchers interested in adopting a trauma-informed approach to consider at each stage in the research process. This presentation is not prescriptive, rather it is an invitation to researchers to consider this approach when working with EMV populations, or any populations, to support positive theoretical and experiential outcomes.
