Masterclass - AI and Textual Analysis in Economics: When Words Become Numbers
In today’s data-rich world, economists are increasingly drawing insights from unstructured text, such as central bank press releases or tweets from political figures such as Mr Trump. A single tweet about trade policy by the US president can move whole financial markets in real time, while the wording and clarity of central bank communication can shape inflation expectations and guide financial decision-making. In this session, Dr Hauzenberger and Dr Gifuni will explore how language and tone in public communication can influence markets and economic behaviour in real time.
Discover how modern data analytics tools and AI are used alongside traditional economic theory to interpret and give meaning to complex algorithms. This masterclass will highlight how these techniques are embedded in our Economics programmes, preparing students for careers in government, academia, and the private sector.
