Abstract: The number of academic publications per year is growing exponentially. New journals and numerous special issues cause the “marketplace of ideas” to become increasingly crowded and confusing. How can PhD students and Early Career Researchers ensure that their work gets noticed in such an environment? Marketing theory tells us that, in saturated markets, building a strong brand is crucial to stick out from the mass. This talk adopts a branding perspective to shed light on how researchers can create a personal brand that helps them get recognized, cited, invited, promoted, etc. The speaker will showcase different tools and activities that researchers may use (depending on personal preference) to increase public awareness of their work and create goodwill in their academic peer group. The talk aims to stimulate the exchange of own experiences and best practices.
