Abstract: Many real-world decision-making problems involve multiple stages of decision-making and various objectives. Besides, most decisions must be made before having complete knowledge of all aspects of the problem, leaving some uncertainty. Deep uncertainty arises when experts and stakeholders do not know or disagree about the use of models, data, or their preferences regarding outcomes. In this situation, scenarios are often used to evaluate the consequences of any decisions in different plausible futures and find the most preferred robust decision.
In this talk, we review some recent optimization-supported approaches developed for multi-criteria decision-making under deep uncertainty in various applications and propose some ideas for improvement to move beyond the traditional thinking of robustness and resilience in decision-making.
