Event Date: 2 December 2015

Time: 10:00 - 12:00

Location: CW507a, Strathclyde Business School – Cathedral Wing, 199 Cathedral Street, Glasgow, G4 0QU

Speakers: Professor Ian Cunningham and Dr Kendra Briken

Abstract: This seminar presents the most recent projects in the Department of Human Resource Management tackling work in the care sector. We will use this event to further our collaborative approach within one of the University strategic research themes, Health, and welcome colleagues from different disciplines and faculties with an interest in this area of work.

Professor Ian Cunningham will discuss some of the recent work undertaken in the department funded by the Institute for Research and Innovation in Social Services (Iriss) which explores perceptions of job quality among front-line workers in private, public and voluntary sector front-line workers. This will be followed by an overview of a number of current projects that are investigating the different challenges facing workers in social care ranging from the introduction of personalised services, as well as continuing austerity in public service funding.

Dr Kendra Briken will talk about the latest successful bid (with team Patricia Findlay, Colin Lindsay, and Pauline Anderson) within the UKCES Futures programme on workplace solutions to the gender pay and opportunity gap, Improving the quality of womens work in the adult social care sector through partnership-led innovation.
