Title:Structured expert elicitation - what, why, how and an exciting example

Abstract: Expert judgment is a common input into decision making and encompasses a wide variety of techniques ranging from a single undocumented opinion to formal elicitation with external validation. The Classical Model for structured expert judgment is an attempt to formally collect, validate, and use quantitative uncertainty assessments from experts as scientific data. In this talk I will discuss the motivation behind the Classical Model and describe the process of conducting an expert elicitation. I will also share a recent case study using the Classical Model to examine the link between breastfeeding and cognitive development, including why expert judgment was used, how experts and questions were selected, and the preliminary results.
