The notion of employee value congruence or fit has received considerable attention from researchers in terms of its variety of definitions and the many ways it can be measured. One particular form of value congruence – with the organisational culture – has been linked with a variety of individual, work group, and organisational outcomes including job satisfaction, commitment and performance. The assessment of congruence, however, has differed in many studies. This seminar explores results from three studies that use different methods for assessing congruence in an occupational stress and employee wellbeing context. Study one explores the moderating potential of perceived value congruence in the work stressor-employee adjustment relationship. Study two investigates the role of perceived value congruence in a period of major change for public sector nurses. Study three presents the results of person and organisation value congruence (based on independent ratings of values of the individual and the organisation by each individual) for employees and volunteers in a nonprofit organisation.
