Students produce posters on research project ideas

MSc students in the Department of Economics prepared posters during March and then presented these to academic staff from the department as part of their “Professional Development for Economists” class. Students created posters covering applied economics topics in areas ranging from growth, inequality, trade, pandemics as well as transport, education and energy policy.

Professional Development for Economists is a core class on the courses MSc in Applied Economics and MSc in Economics and Finance, and is delivered by staff from the Department of Economics, the Fraser of Allander Institute and invited speakers. In 2019-20, external speakers came from organisations including the Bank of England, Office for National Statistics, Competition and Markets Authority and OFGEM. This class is designed to develop students’ skills in the non-technical elements of working as an economist, including using data and charts in communicating economic concepts to non-specialists, as well as learning how to present data in a visual form.
