Fraser of Allander Institute Scholarship Opportunities for MSc Applied Economics

We’re are still taking applications for the 2020/21 cohort of students on our MSc in Applied Economics course.

If you’re interested in developing your technical and analytical skills as an economist, but also want to get practical experience of how they can be used to solve real-world economic problems then take a look at what this course offers.

By focussing upon the applied nature of economics, it gives you the training that businesses and policymakers look for. Yes, you’ll still get a fantastic academic qualification but you’ll also get a broader suite of skills and experience that will serve you well in your future career.

In addition to covering traditional core economic topics, like macroeconomics and microeconomics, you’ll also get a chance to learn about some of the most important economic issues of the day. For example, there are courses on inclusive growth and inequality, regional economic policy and environmental economics.

Your classmates will be diverse. Some will be continuing their studies in economics, whilst others will be using the course to change direction in their studies. You’ll also meet up with classmates who are working in policy or business and are studying part-time. And you’ll be joined by a broad mix of international students.

The Fraser of Allander Institute (FAI) plays a key role in supporting the degree. A number of our current MSc students are currently working on projects being undertaken by the FAI. Others are finalising their plans for their ‘sponsored dissertation’ with the institute. You’ll also have the opportunity to network with the Institute’s broad range of stakeholders, participate in FAI events and hear from a wide range of speakers from outside academia about their life working as an economist or in economic policy.

FAI is delighted to offer up to 6 Scholarships to the value of £6,000 for Home/EU students who hold an offer of a full-time place on the programme for entry September 2020.

How to apply for FAI scholarships

Candidates interested in applying for an FAI scholarship should provide a maximum 1000 word statement demonstrating, through their ideas, experience and future career plans (including their reasoning for joining the MSc Applied Economics) why they should be awarded this scholarship. Candidates will also be considered on the overall quality of their application and financial need.
