Teaching Excellence Awards for SBS staff

The annual Teaching Excellence Awards run by the Strathclyde Student Union took place on May 18, with Professor Phil Taylor, Department of Work, Employment and Organisation, named ‘Best in Business’. Phil was also nominated in the ‘Enthusiasm’ category. The other shortlisted candidates for ‘Best in Business’ alongside Phil were Juliane Thamm, Chandra Thapa and Anthea Mendes.
Other SBS winners were: Dr Marisa Smith for the ‘Innovative Practices’ award; Susan Jackson won the ‘Non-Teaching Support Staff or Service’ category and Robert Lockhart won the ‘Feedback and Support’ category. In addition, Professor Iain Davies was shortlisted for ‘Excellence in Education for Sustainable Development’.
The TEAs are student-led teaching awards to recognize the best of Strathclyde’s teaching staff. Being student-led, it is solely students who nominate, shortlist and pick the winners.
Phil said, “I was delighted to get the Best in Business School at the Student Teaching Excellence Awards event. It means a great deal to me because it comes from the students. It was more poignant for me in that - as a result of retirement - this was my last Awards event. Thanks to all who nominated."
Susan said, “It is an honour to receive an award in the Non-Teaching Support Staff Category at the Teaching Excellence Awards 2023. It is an entire team effort in the MBA Unit where we all strive to help and support our students. Thank you to the wonderful cohorts for the nominations for our APS staff at this year’s awards. To be a small part of their MBA journey feels very rewarding!”
Staff across the business faculty were nominated for the awards and a list of the longlisted staff can be found here: https://www.strathunion.com/pageassets/voice/teachingexcellenceawards/TEAs-Nominations-Longlist.pdf
