New global engagement role builds on SBS international presence

Professor Andy Marshall has been appointed as Strathclyde Business School's new Vice-Dean (Global Engagement), and will be leading the business school's Global Engagement Strategy.

Andy brings a wealth of experience to this role: his academic career as a researcher at the University of Strathclyde spans nearly 34 years, and he has held a Professorship in Finance since 2002. Andy served six years as Head of Accounting & Finance, during which time he was responsible for two very successful REF (UK Research Excellence Framework) submissions, in which the department was rated as the top department in Scotland and in the top 10 UK. The department also moved to the number one position in the UK Good University Guide during his tenure as HoD.

Andy has researched and published in many areas of finance, with his primary expertise being in risk management, accounting disclosures, corporate finance (including insider trading and corporate announcements), international finance (FDI, international investments), and asset pricing (performance studies, investment and unit trusts).

He has lectured in all of our international MBA centres and has also held Visiting Professor posts at Hong Kong Baptist University, the University of Queensland, the University of Salamanca, and IFM (Tanzania). Andy currently chairs the group writing the QAA subject benchmark statement for finance for publication in 2025.

The new role will help SBS:

  • Strengthen and expand our international partnerships
  • Enhance our global reputation in education, research, and knowledge exchange
  • Develop new transnational education initiatives
  • Improve international student recruitment and experience
  • Foster international research collaborations

Executive Dean of Strathclyde Business School, Professor David Hillier, said, "I'm delighted to welcome Andy to his new role. His leadership will be crucial as we continue to build our global presence and create exciting international opportunities for our students and staff."
