Undergraduate tradeshow success

Nearly 200 second year students pitched their business ideas at a tradeshow to a panel of academics from the Hunter Centre of Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Innovation on March 5 as part of the New Venture Planning module.

The tradeshow was held in the Barony Hall and was a huge hit amongst the students and staff with some ideas that could potentially hit the market in the coming years.

A group of students with the team name Cuppatea pitched an innovative tea bag redesign, combining powdered milk and tea leaves in one biodegradable package, intended for campers and travellers on the go.

They said, “Although we were well prepared and our idea was well received, the pitch allowed us to identify gaps in our business model that needed further consideration, making it a very useful learning experience.

“The trade show was a great opportunity to get real world experience of what it might be like to pitch to investors in the future. It was really enjoyable to put learning into practice beyond lectures and was interesting to see how other groups approached the assignment differently. Overall, it was a nerve wracking but insightful experience that we all really enjoyed and hope to have other assignments like this in the future.”
