British Council Singapore honours SBS alumna at the Study UK Alumni Awards 2025

Strathclyde Business School MBA alumna Stephanie Liaw has been presented with the Science and Sustainability Award in the Study UK Alumni Awards Singapore 2025.

British Council Singapore celebrated the achievements of exceptional UK alumni at the Study UK Alumni Awards 2025, held at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore, in February. This flagship event honoured individuals who have leveraged their UK education to make significant contributions to their professions, communities and societies. The Study UK Alumni Awards are a testament to the power of education and collaboration in tackling common challenges and finding lasting solutions to these.

The 2025 Awards celebrated winners across four categories, each recognising the transformative impact of UK-educated Singaporean professionals which included the Business and Innovation Award, the Culture and Creativity Award, Science and Sustainability Award and Social Action Award.

Stephanie said, “I am deeply honoured to have won the Science and Sustainability Award at the Study UK Alumni Awards Singapore.

“Reflecting on my journey, pursuing a Master of Engineering from University of Birmingham and an MBA from University of Strathclyde were among the best decisions I’ve made, blending the best of both worlds - technical engineering and business.

“My journey in energy began with a focus on sustainability in buildings, and thermal coal projects bringing electricity to underdeveloped areas. Over the years, I have had the privilege of leading energy transition projects in Asia. At Mott MacDonald, I am currently driving gigawatt-scale renewable energy projects, and cross-border interconnector projects connecting Singapore and the ASEAN power grid. This work is incredibly rewarding and fulfilling.

“As I continue to bring impact in the energy industry, I am committed to reducing carbon emissions through green energy, promoting equitable energy access to underdeveloped areas, and enhancing community livelihoods.”

Speaking at the event, H.E. Nik Mehta OBE, British High Commissioner to Singapore, commended the awardees: "All four Singapore winners inspire me because they are making a difference to our world in fields ranging from science and sustainability to culture, social engagement, and business innovation. Their stories illustrate how higher education can be a life-changing experience - shaping minds, values, ambitions, and futures".

Two other Strathclyde Business School graduates were also recognised in international Study UK awards – Jirapan Christian Linares was a finalist in the Study UK Thailand awards in the Business and Innovation category which recognises alumni who are active in initiating and contributing to innovative or creative new ideas, solutions, or business opportunities, that have the potential for growth. Meanwhile, Sebastián Martín was a finalist in the Study UK USA awards in the Social Action category which recognises alumni who have made an exceptional contribution and commitment to creating positive social change and improving the lives of others.
