Three SBS students' internship success
Three SBS students are set for summer internships with leading financial companies after taking part in the AmplifyME summer programme.
Finance student Aron Lestas, Finance and Marketing student Abby Penman (pictured) and Economics and Finance student Freya Armstrong, all third years, have accepted the offer of summer internships with Deutsche Bank, Morgan Stanley and HSBC respectively.
Aron said, “I got involved in the AmplifyME programme in the Summer of 2023. I was previously aware of the course and took part in their online taster sessions on multiple occasions before enrolling on the course. The summer programme was a three week course that covered multiple areas of investment banking and provided practical real-world knowledge into the industry as well as providing necessary networking and employability skills.
“The programme covered a number of key areas in financial trading which provided me with a practical insight into the financial markets and real time simulations. This was extremely beneficial when undertaking the assessment process to secure my summer internship. The Summer internship will take place in Deutsche Bank in London in Summer 2025.
“Taking part in the AmplifyME programme helped give me a footing in the financial services industry and was the groundwork to secure a summer placement in London within my desired department. The application to secure my place within FIC is rigorous and the summer programme helped prepare me for all the stages in the process in a very practical way.”
Abby said, “The AmplifyME programme allowed me to experience a range of financial roles in a structured, immersive way. Through this, I discovered the type of work I truly enjoyed.
“I believe this programme has opened my mind to a world of opportunities and provided practical tips to steer my career in the right direction. As a result, I have managed to secure an internship with Morgan Stanley at their Glasgow Office in the Finance division starting on June 2 this year. I am looking forward to further developing the skills I learnt during the AmplifyME summer programme and apply them in a real-world setting.”
