Scenario planning research exhibition at the V&A Dundee Museum
Scenarios for the future of NHS Scotland transportation by 2040 are currently being exhibited at the V&A Dundee Museum as part of the "Design HOPES: From Hope to Health" exhibition from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and Future Observatory funded Design HOPES project.
Part of the scenario planning research behind the exhibition was carried out by a team including Dr Stathis Tapinos and Dr Hassan Naveed of the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Innovation, together with Dr James Dixon of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
The project overall is led by Principal Investigators Professor Paul Rodgers of the University of Strathclyde's Department of Design, Manufacturing and Engineering Management (DMEM) and Professor Mel Woods, of the University of Dundee, and also includes stakeholders from NHS Scotland.
As the climate emergency increasingly puts pressure on healthcare systems, this new exhibition puts sustainable innovation at the forefront. "Design HOPES: From Hope to Health" showcases how designers, researchers and healthcare professionals are working together to reduce the environmental impact of NHS Scotland.
Through product prototypes, videos, games and hands-on design tools, the display shows how both small scale design-led actions and wider shifts can help the NHS reduce its environmental impact while improving care for all.
From designing reusable scrubs, to helping staff and patients make everyday choices that add up to big impacts, the work is rooted in real places and real people. It asks simple but powerful questions around how waste is created, who gets to make decisions, and what tools can help make real change happen.
Design HOPES is a collaborative project that is led by five Scottish universities - University of Strathclyde, University of Dundee, Heriot Watt University, Abertay University, and University of Edinburgh - and supported by NHS Scotland, the third sector, and design organisations. It supports urgent Net Zero goals by rethinking how things are made, used, and reused across the health service.
Videos of the scenario narratives can be found at https://lnkd.in/eKWAgMwD. The artwork for the project was created by artist and designer Dougie Kennedy.
