SBS academic is reviewer for environment report outlining risks to the economy
Professor Black acted as a reviewer on Global Tipping Points report which is set to inform discussion at the upcoming COP 30 conference in Belem, Brazil.
Professor Black said, "Every £ of value an organisation creates requires inputs from the environment. A functioning earth system is the fundamental basis of our economy. This report sets out the deeply precarious nature of the earth climate systems including showing for the first time, that the tropical coral reef systems cannot be saved in their current state. This creates a deeply uncertain future for the one billion people globally who rely on this system for food, income and protection."
Professor Black worked on the social tipping points chapters, providing expertise to explore how we can shift our current economic system to one that supports nature and delivers basic human needs including through action focused on shifting mindsets and developing wellbeing economies.
