Unfiltered - Life as Neurodivergent Entrepreneurs: documentary launch

“Unfiltered – Life as Neurodivergent Entrepreneurs” is a new documentary that shares honest stories from neurodivergent founders and highlights how more supportive systems can be built.

The screening took place on Thursday, March 19 at the Technology and Innovation Centre.

Across Scotland, neurodivergent founders are building businesses while navigating systems that weren’t designed with their ways of thinking in mind and it's their stories that feature in the documentary.

Funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the film is based on research carried out by academics from the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Innovation.

Hunter Centre academics Suzanne Mawson, Marisa Smith, Lucrezia Casulli and Yolanda Achlada were involved in the process from their original ESRC project paper to the cinema experience at TIC, which was delivered with help from TIC, Strathclyde Inspire and the Neurodiversity & Entrepreneurship Association..

Lucrezia (pictured) said, “This documentary provides an honest look at what it truly means to build a business while thinking differently. The entrepreneurs featured share their stories of navigating entrepreneurship and they speak openly about the challenges and strengths of doing so as neurodivergent entrepreneurs.

“We are grateful for all the behind the scenes help and, most importantly, are thankful to all the entrepreneurs who starred in the documentary itself. This event was truly a team effort and this team has certainly put in so much passion and work to make this happen.

“Gordon Hodge from TIC offered a contribution in kind with the venue and co-planned it with us to be inclusive, from pre-event communication to headsets on the night to accommodate sound sensitivities, while the Strathclyde Inspire team took on the operational running of the event.

“We hope this film can help drive discussion forward about how support structures for entrepreneurs can be more inclusive and potentially create tangible change.”

Fittingly, the documentary was screened during Neurodiversity Celebration Week and TIC itself prepared for the event using tips and tools provided by founder of Welcome Brain Consulting, Andy Williamson, as the Strathclyde venue works towards being accredited as a neuroinclusive venue.
