Guardian University Guide: UK top 10; 1st in Scotland for SBS subjects

Strathclyde Business School has performed well in The Guardian University Guide 2026, with two subjects in the UK top 10 of the subject rankings tables ranking 1st and 2nd in Scotland.

Accounting and Finance and Business and Management were placed 8th and 9th respectively with Economics also highly ranked at 11th in the UK. Accounting and Finance, and Business and Management were ranked 1st and 2nd in Scotland with Economics ranking 4th. Marketing  was ranked 23rd in the UK and ranked 1st in Scotland.

Overall, the University of Strathclyde is in 17th position, making it the 7th consecutive year for Strathclyde in the top 20. This year's ranking makes us the 3rd highest ranked university in Scotland, with only St Andrews and Edinburgh above us. 

The Guardian ranks universities through eight different scores, which form a total out of 100. These include what students say about their teaching and feedback in the annual National Student Survey.

The ranking also looks at how big class sizes are through the student-to-staff ratio and how much universities spend on teaching each student. Other areas covered are student grades and whether a student's academic performance improves at university (the value-added score), and how likely they are to persevere with their course. There’s also data on how many students get graduate jobs 15 months after leaving university.
