Sunday Times University Guide: Accounting & Finance top in UK; two subjects in top 10

The University of Strathclyde has been ranked among the UK’s top ten universities in the Sunday Times University Guide 2027 for the first time, climbing to nine in the prestigious league table, a rise of two places from 11th last year.

As well as climbing the main league table, Strathclyde has extended its lead within individual subject tables, topping them in accounting and finance, communication and media studies, creative writing, pharmacology and pharmacy, and social work. 

In addition, the University was also in the top ten for 19 other subjects, including - from the business school - Business, Management and Marketing which was ranked 5th in the UK & 2nd in Scotland, and Economics which was ranked 6th equal in the UK and 2nd in Scotland. 

The Guide highlights innovations including the Advanced Net Zero Innovation Centre, an ambitious national facility launched to support the UK’s transition to a net zero economy, drawing on the University’s established strengths in power networks and advanced manufacturing.

It also credits ‘a stream of socially progressive developments’, including Strathclyde gaining University of Sanctuary status, and its pioneering suicide prevention strategy which includes Scotland’s first full-time suicide project co-ordinator at a university. 

Strathclyde was also voted Scottish university of the year runner up for its ‘exceptional performance, academic vision, and sustained excellence during a transformative era for higher education.’
