Doctoral Research Conference in Marketing

The Marketing Department's Doctoral Research Conference saw over 40 people attending part or all of the conference on March 16.

There was a good response from the department's own PhD students and their supervisors, and even a part-time DBA student who flew over from Switzerland. In addition, there were three from Glasgow University, one from Glasgow Caledonian, one from the Department of Management and two from the Hunter Centre.

Aside from supporting their own students who were presenting, colleagues gave generously of their time and there was good interaction and feedback offered at the poster sessions and the mini PhD panels in the afternoon. The keynote speaker, Professor Derek Pugh, co-author of "How to get a PhD", now in its 5th edition with the Open University Press, delivered an interactive session on "How not to get a PhD", which, rather ironically, was well received.

At the end of the day, there was a reception in the Tiki Café where the awards (sponsored by SAGE publishing) were presented.

The award for the Best Competitive Paper was presented to Achilleas Boukis. The award for best poster presentation was awarded to Anna Cydzik and, due to the quality of the posters presented, the judging panel - Stan Paliwoda, Eleanor Shaw and Mark Tadajewski - decided to offer an additional prize, and there were ultimately two runners up: Laila Kasem and Saira Banu. Everyone will now have the opportunity to view these posters for themselves as the posters will be displayed in the open plan mid-section of the 5th Floor of the Marketing Department alongside the banner "PhD Research 2012".
