The first annual 'Images of Research' competition run at Strathclyde was open to research students with the aim of providing an opportunity for them to publicise the impact of their research to a wider audience with an image, supported by a short abstract. The images were exhibited as part of Strathclyde's celebration, 'Knowledge Exchange' (KE) week, Engage with Strathclyde. Leighanne Higgins, a second year doctoral research student in the Department of Marketing, was the prizewinner for the 'Economy' category with her research image entitled 'Consuming Cathedrals'.
The Images of Research judging panel was: Professor Tim Bedford, Associate Deputy Principal Knowledge Exchange and Research Enhancement, Dr Robin Hoyle, Director of Science at Glasgow Science Centre and former Director of Knowledge Transfer at Scottish Enterprise, Margaret McGarry.
The three judges decided on the winner from each category, plus four commendations. The winners were announced at a prize-giving reception on May 1, hosted by Principal Jim McDonald. The overall winner was then announced at the Engage with Strathclyde event at the Barony on May 4.
Leighanne's image - along with all images from the competition - will go on tour later this year, beginning with a showcase at the Glasgow Science Centre. You can see more of the images here.
