Strathclyde Business School hosted the first Scottish-wide Business and Management doctoral colloquium of the Scottish Graduate School Doctoral Training Centre over May 17 and 18.
Sixty PhD students from various Scottish institutions participated, presenting their own research as well as attending various advanced doctoral training sessions. This is expected to be an annual event which will rotate around Scottish business and management schools.
This year's Colloquium provided an opportunity for students in the early stages of study to present their research in a constructive and non-threatening environment as well as take part in seminars and workshops covering theory, philosophy, advanced methodologies, research ethics, career development and managing one's supervisors. Contributors included external speakers - Professor Ann Cunliffe (University of New Mexico), Professor Derek Pugh (Open University Business School) and Dr Lucy Leiper (Aberdeen University) - as well as Strathclyde staff - Professor Paul Thompson (Vice Dean Research), Dr Calvin Burns (Associate Dean (Postgraduate), Dr Jooyoung Jong (Management Science) and Claire Jackson (Researcher Development Programme).
