Deloitte 2012 Prize for MDP 1

MDP 1 Winners - Team 1B

Deloitte, the largest global professional services firm, as in previous years, sponsored a prize for the best Holiday Project report and presentation in MDP 1 in the 2011-12 academic year.

The top three teams – Teams 1D, 7G and 13A – selected from over 600 students in MDP1 had the opportunity to give their presentations on starting up a holiday company to a group of representatives from Deloitte in their Glasgow office on May 1. Dr Jill MacBryde, co-ordinator for MDP1, and Lucy Campbell, Graduate Recruitment Manager for Deloitte, were both present at the final and commented on the high standard and enthusiasm displayed by all the finalists. All three teams presented professionally and confidently and they provided solid foundations for their sometimes surprising business ideas, addressing, at the same time, some of the most burning issues of our society today.

Prizes were awarded to all three teams, but special congratulations to the winners Team 1D, consisting of Andrew Grindlay, Rory Halliday, Lauren Lamb, Fiona Luke, Carron MacNab, Sam MacDonald and Jamie McDougall for their presentation on VWVacations – their holiday company offering campervan holidays throughout Scotland with packages to suit different budgets and personal preferences. The winning team received a £250 prize.

Well done to the runners up who also received a prize: Team 7G (Valerija Mazurova, Matej Otajovic, Kashif Reid, Christie Sharp and Mark Sheriday) who introduced their Get Wild business plan targetting backpacker tourists and Team 13A (Louise Black, Claire Conroy, Joshua Quan, Romans Kolesniks, Gintare Meskenaite and Tom Nutton) who presented Volterra (a vampire-themed holiday expeience).

All participants also received a letter of commendation from Deloitte.
