New book featured in Herald

Dr Andrew Perchard’s new book, Aluminiumville, was the subject of an article in The Herald on August 17 entitled ‘Price of Progress’ which examines the history of the aluminium industry in the Highlands.

‘Aluminiumville’ was the name British Aluminium had thought of calling Kinlochleven, its second development in the Highlands, but it used instead the Anglicisation of the existing Gaelic placement, Ceann Loch Liobhuinn.

Dr Perchard, Department of Management, says the closeness of British Aluminium to the government at the time may have ‘blinkered’ the company and its story ‘may provide a valuable insight for businesses today’.
