Dr Calvin Burns (Department of HRM) and Dr Kevin Quigley (University of Dalhousie, Canada) have been awarded $20K from the Government of Canada to study risk communication amongst cyber security professionals.
Their research will take a mental models approach to understand how cyber security professionals perceive risk and then use the social amplification of risk framework to consider how various media can amplify or attenuate those perceptions.
This grant builds on their existing international risk research partnership for which last year they were awarded $250K from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. Dr Burns said, "We are very excited about our continued grant success. This multi-disciplinary project is another example of how Strathclyde is starting to lead the way as an international technological university."
