Some of the Doctoral Graduates along with Professor Ibeh and Professor Paliwoda
The graduation ceremony on July 12 was a particularly memorable event for the Marketing Department, as it held its first ever doctoral graduation reception to mark the successful completion of the PhD journey by several of its doctoral researchers. The impetus for the reception was to celebrate the outstandingly high number of quality doctoral researchers – nine - being graduated by the Department in a single graduation ceremony. The event also aimed to recognise the achievements of these new graduates (Dr Mathew Analogbei, Dr Matthew Alexander, Dr Andrea Tonner, Dr Guy Bauwen, Dr Damian Giannakis, Dr Babak Taheri, Dr Susan Stokeld, Dr Shan Ju Chi, Dr Sarah Grumball) as well as salute the contributions of their families and friends, academic supervisors and other supporters.
The reception, held at the SBS’s Tiki Café, was well attended by the graduating students, their families and friends, and staff and students of the Marketing Department. The Head of Marketing Department, Professor Kevin Ibeh, made a short speech, as did the recently retired Director of the Department’s Postgraduate Research Programme, Professor Stan Paliwoda. One of the graduates, Dr Mathew Analogbei responded on behalf of the celebrants, thanking the Department for the vibrant and supportive research environment that they experienced within the Marketing Department and the Strathclyde Business School.
The Department of Marketing has had a thriving Doctoral programme stretching back a few decades. Some of the early graduates of this programme have gone to become significant academic leaders within the UK and internationally, and the Department is delighted to see another healthy cohort ‘going out to the world’ to project the Department’s brand nationally and internationally.
