Dubai centre hosts Inspire talk

The Dubai campus organised an ‘Inspire Talk’ for students and alumni on the theme of Social Media on November 8 at Dubai Women’s College.

The moderator was Hermoine Macura, TV anchor, founder & CEO of Straight Street Media, and founder of Inspire Talks.

There were three panel members: Leith Matthews, founder of MAKE business hub, UAE, a co-working HUB space with Dubai’s young tech entrepreneurs; Amal Al Mutawaa, a social media expert working in the Executive office; and Doris Matlock, a corporate layer in Dubai who ran across the Sahara Desert to raise money for the Black Dog Institute, a charity supporting mental disorder. She has a blog at www.facebook.com/teamblackdogoz/

The discussion was on the use of social media – Leith talked about how he used social media to build his business and connections, Amal talked a little about how she and the government uses social media, and Doris talked about the role of social media in raising money for charity.

Dr Ron Bradfield, Director of SBS UAE, said, “There was good discussion among panel members and audience, with the consensus of opinion being that social media cannot be ignored, it permeates every aspect of our life and is growing in significance every day in all aspects - personal and professional - and while some forms may be declining, others continue to grow.”
