The Strathclyde Entrepreneurial Network has partnered with the Hunter Centre to organise a Spirit of Enterprise contest which will see teams of students from across Strathclyde University being given the opportunity to generate business ideas and then have those ideas tested.
Entry to the contest is now closed but 12 teams of 5 people have shown interest, and will be pursuing their ideas from now until the competition closes at the end of March. The competition runs in three stages and will see teams researching solutions to problems from four specific Technology and Innovation Centre (TIC) themes: Health, Energy, Manufacturing and Smart Cities. Throughout this contest, students will be engaging with alumni entrepreneurs and getting practical experience in business start-up and developing their entrepreneurial skills.
The Spirit of Enterprise Contest officially kicked off at the Trades Hall, Glasgow, on November 14 with a special event that gave students the opportunity to be put into a team, break the ice and network with like-minded students.
Joshua Sauter, Strathclyde MBA alumnus and Enterprise Advisor with the Strathclyde Entrepreneurial Network, said, “Our goal is to make this the premier student contest in Scotland and Strathclyde students have the chance to compete in the very first year. The event on November 14 gave students the chance to see the level of profile and attention the contest is already attracting – they had the opportunity to network with Jim McColl OBE, one of the best-known entrepreneurs in Scotland, Afzal Khushi, CBE, Director and Co-owner of TRESPASS, and Professor Sir Jim McDonald, the University’s Principal.”
