Executive Masters in Hospitality and Tourism Leadership students at Cornell

Executive Masters in Hospitality and Tourism Leadership

This month has seen participants from the first cohort of the Excutive Masters in Hospitality and Tourism Leadership programme travel to the United States for modules delivered by our partner Cornell University based at Ithaca, New York. The modules addressed the Fundamentals of Hotel Investment and Financing Decisions, and Strategic Revenue Management. The modules were taught by Cornell professors Jan De Roos and Chris Anderson, both experts in their field.

Jochem-Jan Sleiffer, Area Vice President Northern and Central Europe at Hilton Worldwide, said of the Cornell modules, " It was a great experience to be taught on this historic and famous campus by one of the world's gurus of asset management.’ Gerhard Struger, General manager, regional vice president of Swissotel Hotels & Resorts, added, " I was really impressed by the professionalism of this programme. The academic presentation was well prepared, the lecturers were ready to discuss the contents and adjust to the audience. For me personally, the module about hotel and real estate valuations was interesting and a great learning experience." Other participants were managers and directors from hotel groups such as Apex Hotels, Marriott International and the Gleneagles Hotel.

The launch of the second cohort took place on January 25 at the Grand Central Hotel with the first class being 'Assessing the Future and its Impact on Hospitality and Tourism'. Running from January 26-28, the class was jointly taught by Strathclyde Business School academics, Professor Tom Baum and Dr George Burt.

MBA 25

The second cohort of the MBA 25 programme will launch at William Grant & Sons' Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown on March 6 with the first class being The Learning Manager module from March 7-9. Aimed at creating global leaders of the future, MBA 25 was set up in partnership with William Grant & Sons and a consortium of partner organisations. Taught part-time over three years, MBA 25 is focused on luxury, high-value Scottish brands and companies with a clear global ambition.

Standard Life

Strathclyde Business School's partnership with Standard Life continues - cohort two of the 'Take to Market' programme started with The Learning Manager, taught by Oliver Crane on the Isle of Cumbrae. The executive education programme will continue at the Centre for Corporate Connections with a module on marketing in February.

Weir Group

The Weir Business Management Programme is expanding to four cohorts this year. A customised PGCert in Management running over 15 months, the programme includes Operations Management, Finance for Financial Managers, Innovation, Commercial Law, Managing People, and Managing Projects. The Weir Group is structured as 50 companies divided in to three divisions across 70 countries and, since 2011, Weir has enrolled 75 managers who have a mix of technical and functional expertise on the programme from across the globe.

Babcock

Babcock Academy’s senior management programme runs this Spring with 50 participants from its Marine & Technology and Defence & Security divisions. Dr David MacKay of the Department of Management and Morven McLean from the Centre for Corporate Connections led a programme design session with Babcock’s HR Directors in December to look at the future design of the Academy’s programmes. At the same time the organisation is in discussions with SBS about the launch of its corporate MBA in September 2013. Professor Gerry Johnson, formerly of Strathclyde Business School and who teaches on the Babcock Academy, is presently in the final stages of completing a new case about Babcock Rail for the latest edition of his book.

Iberdrola MBA

Iberdrola’s MBA in the Global Energy Industry will launch in Madrid on February 25. This two and half year programme will be delivered by Strathclyde Business School in partnership with Comillas University and has attracted international participants from UK, Spain, Mexico, USA and Brazil.
