Dubai counsellor receives 2012-13 Local Counsellor of the Year Award

MBA local counsellor for Making Strategy in Dubai since 2009, Wasef Shakaa, has been given the Local Counsellor of the Year Award, the third time this has been awarded by Strathclyde Business School. A total of eight nominations were put forward this year by MBA subject co-ordinators and international partners. Input on each of the nominations was sought, in a ‘360-degree’ fashion, from student evaluations, subject co-ordinators, the subject’s teaching team, international partners and administrators. The reports from these sources served to evaluate the nominations against the Award’s main criteria: consistently positive student evaluations, engagement with the Strathclyde lecturer, and quality and timelines of assignment feedback.

Among the evidence that led Wasef Shakaa to emerge as the 'best of the best' were comments from academics and students describing Wasef, a Strathclyde MBA alumnus, as an engaging learning facilitator: "He encourages students to think, to try out concepts and is well able to integrate his experiences with related subjects on the programme"; "Very clear in delivering the material"; "Obtains a high level of participation from students in class"; "Creates terrific engagement with students"; "Goes in depth into the material, highlighting all along the practicality of the concepts and their applicability to our everyday work".

The Award was presented to Wasef during the recent UAE Presentation Ceremony in Dubai by Professor Colin Eden, a Vice Dean of SBS.
