Conference presentations by marketing academic

Professor Alan Wilson, Marketing, delivered a presentation on "Engaging Patients and their Families to Improve Services" at the Patient Safety Congress in Birmingham on 22 May. Professor Wilson also delivered a presentation on "Global Insights from the Voice of the Customer Research" at the Customer Contact Association's Customer Experience Network Forum in Manchester on May 23.

MIM and MBM students’ fund-raising event

On April 19 the MSc International Management (MIM) and MSc Business Management (MBM) classes from Strathclyde Business School joined together for a quiz night in the Lord Todd to raise money for the children's charity Morning Tears in China. They had a strong turnout with a total of 57 students from the two classes who competed in teams against each other covering topics such as Geography, Scotland and Movies! A total of £148 was raised, and the team that won was from MBM with a close MIM runner up! Overall it was a sociable night which allowed the two student groups to mingle and enjoy each other’s company.

Editorial board appointment for Accounting and Finance professor

Congratulations to Professor Christine Cooper who has been invited on to the editorial board of Accounting, Organizations and Society (AOS) journal. She joins David Cooper, consulting professor in accounting and finance, and Professor John Roberts of accounting and finance, meaning the department has a very strong presence in this 4* journal.

Fellowship for management academic

Dr Andrew Perchard (management) has been awarded the Betty Sams Christian Fellowship in Business History to undertake research in company archives in Richmond, Virginia.

PhD student invited to international Consumer Culture Theory workshop

First year PhD student from the department of Marketing, Ashleigh Logan, was recently accepted to attend a week long intensive international workshop with leading scholars in the Consumer Culture Theory (CCT) domain of Marketing including: Russell Belk, Robert Kozinets and John Deighton to name a few, at the University of Bilkent in Turkey from May 26 – June 2.

The USSA (University of Strathclyde Students Association) held their yearly star awards where individuals are recognised for their contribution to the university and the student population. Ashleigh was elected and won the Business School Representative of the year award for her contribution to a number of projects taking place at the University including: her role as the department of marketing representative; postgraduate representative on the RKEC knowledge exchange committee; and input on a number of reports including the EQUIS report and the postgraduate faculty working group review.

Engage with Strathclyde event

There was a good turnout for the Engage with Strathclyde event run by Strathclyde Business School as part of the week-long series of events held from April 29-May 3 with the aim of celebrating and strengthening the university’s partnerships with business.

Melissa McCrindle and Martin Brooks of Strathclyde Business School led the event on April 30 targeted at SBS alumni. Attendees heard short case studies of how SBS engages with businesses and organisations. They were also given insight into how they –and their organisation – could partner with SBS and was a great networking event for all concerned.
