Babcock, the UK's leading engineering support services organisation, has launched a new MBA aimed at senior leaders, extending their existing partnership with Strathclyde Business School.
SBS and Babcock have a longstanding relationship, with more than 850 Babcock employees having benefited in the last five years from an investment of more than £2 million in executive education. This latest development, the Babcock MBA, has been developed in close collaboration with Strathclyde Business School to provide a company specific programme which will offer practical solutions to day-to-day issues. The first cohort of 25 participants is due to be in place by September.
Delegates from different parts of the Group, which delivers complex and critical support to a range of customers in defence and civil markets, will be invited to take part in the three year part-time programme. Course subject matter ranges from leadership through to corporate governance. Teaching sessions will be divided into 15, three-day residential periods (approximately one course every two months), plus a final project. Sessions will take place in Glasgow and London and will be delivered by Strathclyde Business School.
Professor Susan Hart, Dean of Strathclyde Business School, commented, "The development of this tailor-made programme marks the next stage of our evolving partnership with Babcock – a world leader in its field.
"By providing a tailor made MBA we are delivering a programme which exactly meets the needs of our client, a process which is becoming highly valued across the business community.
"Our organisations share a set of pioneering values and by working together we will release potential and help to create future generations of global leaders."
In 2005 Babcock had annual revenues of £760m but a period of rapid expansion meant this had risen to over £3billion by 2013. A series of acquisitions brought a number of companies into the organisation each with its own culture and managerial approach. The new MBA is aimed at candidates with the identified leadership potential and ambition to progress into more senior roles to help drive forward the business in the coming decade.
Kevin Goodman, Group Director of Organisation and Development said, "We believe that Babcock has a responsibility to develop our people to ensure that we have the strongest and most effective leaders to manage our business in the future.
"Our longstanding relationship with Strathclyde has allowed us to develop the Babcock MBA programme, which is key component of our development plans."
The Babcock MBA was officially launched on June 12 at the Blue Fin Building, Southwark Street, London.
