MSc in Human Resource Management students recently had the opportunity to present their ideas to the Military Secretary as part of their project placement at the Army Personnel Centre in Glasgow. The Military Secretary, Major General Andrew Gregory, is essentially the head of HR for the British Army.

The students undertook research about organisational culture, graduate recruitment, and talent streaming in the British Army. These were timely and topical projects which have had an impact on the British Army's policies and procedures as it prepares to reduce the regular force and almost triple the reserve force in lines with the UK Government's latest Strategic Defence and Spending Review.

The students' project supervisor, Dr Calvin Burns, said, "This was an excellent learning opportunity since the Army Personnel Centre deals with all aspects of career management and retention in the British Army. This is another example of our commitment to useful learning and the CIPD's magazine, People Management, rated the British Army as having made the fourth most important impact to the HR profession over the last 100 years!"
