Paper accepted for 4* journal

Lucrezia Casulli, PhD Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Entrepreneurship, had a paper accepted for a 4* journal in Entrepreneurship (Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice). The paper should be online later in the summer.

She explained, "This paper is a conceptual piece on how international entrepreneurs are likely to reason on potential new foreign market entry opportunities based on their idiosyncratic experience. It stems from my doctoral thesis, in which I argued that rational economic approaches are inadequate to explaining how individuals in small firms make decisions. Instead, based on my data, I suggested that a better explanation is provided by theories of judgement under uncertainty (based on Tversky and Kahneman ’s work on heuristics and biases)."

The paper is a joint effort with Professor Marian Jones of the University of Glasgow. Because of the novelty of the approach within the area of internationalisation of firms, the paper has been accepted for publication in a special issue of Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice dedicated to high potential new approaches in the area of international entrepreneurship. The special issue will feature work from leading scholars including Jay Barney, Sharon Alvarez, Shaker Zahra, Francois Hennart and Jeff Covin.

‘Big data analytics’ proved popular event in Abu Dhabi

About 50 students, alumni, and community members gathered on Strathclyde Business School UAE's Abu Dhabi campus for a 'Big Data Analytics' evening talk on June 25. The seminar was held to address the enigma and utility of big data for modern managers, and was delivered by Dr Matthew Revie of the department of Management Science, who has extensive experience providing decision support and continuing professional development to a wide range of organisations.

Over the course of the two-hour community lecture, Dr Revie provided insights into how big data can be used and the various considerations that should be kept in mind when trying to successfully implement big data analytics strategically and meaningfully within an organisation. He went on to answer questions from audience members, encouraging those with applicable concerns in their own workplaces to get in touch after the seminar.

Captivating case studies and straightforward non-technical dissections of the features, techniques, benefits, and complexities of big data analytics allowed this evening talk to successfully demystify this important topic in a way that was both enlightening and useful for the forward thinking managers in attendance.
