Grant Allan, Fraser of Allander Institute and Department of Economics, presented the latest results of the 19th Oil and Gas survey to a group of industry leaders in Aberdeen on November 28. Running since 2004, this survey provides both a detailed snapshot and trend evidence for optimism and activity across operators, contractors and service companies active in this important sector of the Scottish and UK economies.
The latest survey paid particular attention to firms' current experiences in staff recruitment, retention and training issues. It found strong employment growth in 2013, 98% of contractors planning to recruit in 2014 and three in four operators and two thirds of contractors suffering from recruitment difficulties.
The survey is carried out by the Fraser of Allander Institute twice a year, and is run in collaboration with Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce, and with sponsorship from law firm Bond Dickinson.
