Leadership as Relational Practice Workshop

The New Year saw members of the Department of Strategy and Organisation hold a workshop entitled 'Leadership as Relational Practice'. Fiona Conway, Hilary Kane, Peter McInnes, Iona Scott-Woodhouse, Chrysavgi Sklaveniti, Marisa Smith and Ying Zhang met to consider the implications of recent theoretical developments that have marked a shift away from viewing leadership as a quality possessed by individuals towards considering how it emerges in what passes between people.

Working with Dr Steven Kempster of Lancaster University and the British Academy of Management's Special Interest Group in Leadership, the group explored how their interests in leadership development, coaching, and critical reflexive practice might contribute to a distinctive approach to understanding, and teaching, what appropriate 'leaderful' behaviours might be particularly in complex, transnational, contexts.

The output from the workshop will soon be available on the Department of Strategy and Organisation's website, and the group intend to organise further meetings later in the year to develop their ideas and drive forward their agenda.
