The Management Development Programme continues to work closely with a range of community and business partners in the redesigned programme. MDP 2 students are currently planning their own individualised experience that they will undertake in third year and are engaged in a series of developmental workshops run in conjunction with Strathclyde University Learning Enhancement Advisers, Irene Bell and Aidan Johnston. The workshops are examining learning styles, employability models and experiential learning in order to assist students with the process of designing and completing their individual learning contracts.
In MDP 3, selected students are engaged in a series of pilot experiential learning projects including internships, the Strathclyde Business Clinic and ViPs as well as a series of social responsibility programmes with partner community organisations Bannerman High School, Williamwood High School, Reachout and Barclays Lifeskills. The two school programmes challenge students to deliver an app-building case study to second year and third year pupils respectively. Over the next few weeks pupils from both schools will be visiting SBS to present their work and have a tour of the campus. The students working with Reachout are assisting the organisation to extend their activities to St Rochs secondary school where they will deliver homework support in the after school club. In addition to this, the students will help the pupils organise an event to raise money for Reachout! as well as facilitate a campus visit.
The Strathclyde Business Clinic launched earlier this semester and provides an opportunity for third year students to develop their consultancy skills through engagement with small businesses in the Glasgow area. Students attended a series of workshops and are now working with three companies on a range of projects.
MDP 1 students are currently working on the Build an App project where they generate a business plan for an app concept which they then pitch through a video assessment submission in week 11. They are also looking forward to working with Morgan Stanley in week 11 during the second Personal Development Planning session. Morgan Stanley representatives will talk to students about how PDP operates in their organisation and what this is used for in terms of performance development and measurement before working with teams by assisting with the development of individual and team learning objectives to take forward into second year.
