The Department of Marketing recently welcomed a range of guest speakers as part of a three day induction event for 140 incoming marketing honours dissertation students.
Douglas Samson, an alumnus from 2006, spoke about non-profit marketing drawing on his experience as Marketing and Communications Manager at Yorkhill Children's Charity.
A presentation on P&G was delivered by two alumni from the Department of Marketing. Alistair Dow (2006) and Jane Cross (2013) focused on a case study of Gillette's partnership with the Movember campaign. This was followed by a social event sponsored by P&G where the students had the opportunity to ask about the graduate recruitment process.
Another previous student of the department, Soraya Ghafar (2008) presented on her experiences of financial marketing and reflected on her career progression at The Royal Bank of Scotland.
Finally the agency perspective was provided by Claire Wood (chair of IPA in Scotland/Leith) who drew on a range of examples to describe the processes involved in the development of marketing communications.
