Abroon Qazi, a research student jointly supervised in Economics (Dr Alex Dickson) and Management Science (Professor John Quigley) was successful in his proposal for the highly prestigious 'Endeavour Research Fellowship' programme, sponsored by the Australian Government providing $ 24, 500 (AUD) which will fund a four month research visit to the University of South Australia next year.
Abroon is investigating strategic supply network risks associated with the development of complex, high value manufacturing items, such as an aircraft. Such supply networks encompass long-term partnerships where it is difficult to substitute suppliers, leaving manufacturers vulnerable to price increases and delayed deliveries.
His research will involve devising a mechanism to mitigate such strategic risks in environments with much uncertainty, drawing on Game Theory and Bayesian Belief Networks (BBNs) to represent the relationship between uncertainty and strategic decision making.
