Accounting and Finance guest lectures

Accounting and Finance's Portfolio Management and Security Analysis class has had two guest lectures recently.

Strathclyde Business School (SBS) was delighted to welcome Daniel Broby, Chief Executive at GEMfonds PLC and Visiting Professor in Accounting and Finance on February 23.

Professor Broby presented his views on the structure of the Fund Management Industry in Scotland to alumni, MBA and Masters Students as well as industry leaders.

His presentation covered:

Dr Devraj Basu, Director of Research in Accounting and Finance said, "It was great to see industry and academia come together to debate and discuss the opportunities for the Fund Management sector in both Glasgow and Scotland. Professor Broby's presentation sparked some great questions on the night showing that there is an appetite for this particular topic so we were thrilled that the Business School could facilitate the discussion."

Professor Broby, a Global and Emerging Market specialist has held a number of C level positions in the Fund Management industry, including Chief Executive Officer, Chief Investment Officer and Chief Portfolio Manager.

With an MPhil in Economics and an MSc in Investment Analysis, he was elected an individual member of the London Stock Exchange in 1990, is a Chartered Fellow of the CISI and a Fellow of CFA (UK). He has also written numerous books and articles related to fund management including 'A Guide to Fund Management'; 'The Changing face of European Fund Management'; The Future of the UK Fund Management Industry; and 'A Guide to Equity Index Construction'.

The second guest lecturer was Alistair Byrne who is a senior investment strategist with State Street Global Advisors in London. His lecture was on household finance and behavioural biases: Saving for retirement.
