Changing Work and Migration in an era of Globalised Commodity Chains: Marie Curie Changing Employment

Dr Leonardo Freire de Mello from the Department of Engineering and Applied Social Sciences Federal University of ABC, Sao Paulo, presented to staff and students of the Department of Human Resource Management on "New perspectives on 21st century migration in and to Brazil" on March 19.

The visit was part of a British Council/FAPESP grant 'Responsible Innovation across borders' shared between Dr Brian Garvey, Department HRM, and researchers at Lancaster University/China Institute of Sciences, the Brazilian Universities of ABC, Sao Paulo and UNICAMP.

'Images of Research' features Institute for Future Cities

Two images from the Institute for Future Cities have been selected to feature in this year's 'Images of Research' exhibition. The exhibition will be on display at the new TIC from May 5 to 31 before going on tour throughout Glasgow.

Richard Bellingham, Director of the Institute said, "The themes for this year's competition, Energy, Sustainability, Innovation and Urban Health, really fit in with what the new City Observatory does.

"We are delighted that some of the strong images from our Glasgow Atlas, which visualises a range of urban data, will feature in the Images of Research exhibition."

Publication from PhD research

Andrew Bratton, SBS and David Livingstone Centre for Sustainability, has recently published from his PhD research. A White Paper was published this month adapted from his co-authored chapter in 'The Psychology of Green Organizations' (Oxford Univeristy Press), edited by Jennifer Robertson (Western University) and Julian Barling (Queen’s School of Business).

Accounting and Finance guest speakers

The Department of Accounting and Finance has had the following guest speakers for its regular research seminar series:

Helen Bollaert (SKEMA Business School, France) - "Regulating CEO Narcissism"

Talis Putnins (University of Technology Sydney, Australia) - "Liquidity provision in limit order book markets"

Alberto Manconi (University of Tilburg, Netherlands) - "Are Investors for Sale? Evidence from Financial Mergers"

Mr David Vander, founder and CEO of Liquidatum and former Treasurer of Rabobank came as a guest lecturer on March 3, for the module "Derivatives and Treasury Management". The topic of the lecture was on risk management and what does being a Treasurer mean, risk involved, and how to excel in that post.

Cross-faculty guest lecture

Chris Bray, Head of Environmental Credit Risk with Barclays Group and co-Chair of UNEP FI Bank Commission gave a presentation on Reputation Risk to a cross Faculty group of undergraduate honours and postgraduate students studying risk with the Departments of Accounting and Finance, Management Science and HRM on March 11.
