Undergraduates enjoy Dubai study visit

Forty undergraduate students from Strathclyde Business School took part in a one week study visit to Dubai following the success of the inaugural trip last year.

They visited DAFZA (Dubai Airport Free Zone Authority) and JAFZA (Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority), events which were possible thanks to support from Strathclyde alumni.

Ammar Shams, SBS GCC Advisory Board member gave the group a cultural talk and they also heard from Strathclyde MBA alumna Anne Tice, Senior Manager, Learning and Development Talent at GEMS Education on getting a job in Dubai.

Students also benefited from cultural and business trips including to Dubai Museum, Burj Khalifa and Sheikh Mohamed Centre for Cultural Understanding, a marketing-focused visit to Dubai Mall, as well as a company visit to Emirates Flight Catering where they were given a tour of the operations.

Laura Davidson, assistant faculty manager from SBS accompanied the student group, while Dubai staff Karen Ryan and Sheena Mohideen were on hand to assist throughout the week.

One of the students Sana Sabar said, "This trip has been most eye opening for my career. I've gone from having a small idea of moving to the UAE to further my education to realising this dream can be a reality. Every single event was meaningful and beneficial and I am extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity to represent my university in a highly fast paced, diverse environment. I thank Strathclyde University for allowing us to get immersed into the Dubai culture - from the trip to DAFZA, JAFZA, and Emirates Flight Catering to the mosque."

Fellow student Ivan Petkov added, "The Study Dubai Programme helped me understand the true meaning of progress. The visit to Sheikh Mohammed's centre for cultural understanding gave me a different perspective on the local culture and allowed me to see how Emiratis' mindset is the driver behind the progress of their whole country and specifically Dubai."
