STEP UP sustainable cities sessions at All-Energy conference

The STEP UP (Strategies Towards Energy Performance and Urban Planning) project and its partner cities of Riga, Ghent, Glasgow and Gothenburg are hosting sessions on sustainable city energy planning at the 2014 All-Energy conference in Glasgow on May 6 and 7.

All-Energy Exhibition and Conference is the UK's largest renewable energy event, showcasing a range of renewable and sustainable technologies and a multi-stream conference incorporating discussion, seminars and case histories with a focus on knowledge sharing of solutions to challenges, from community energy to sustainable cities, and more. Strathclyde University has a stand with representatives from across the university, including the business school. University Principal Professor Sir Jim McDonald will be giving a talk at the event.

As part of the conference's Sustainable Cities strand, STEP UP will hold two sessions. The first, on May 6, will feature political representatives from the four STEP UP cities who will share their experiences as local leaders championing the sustainable and smart cities agenda. They will reflect on the importance of local, political support for successful Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs), the common barriers to gaining this support, and solutions and strategies to overcome these that could be adapted by other cities.

The second session will focus on STEP UP cities' experiences of working on the STEP UP project, including project approaches and outcomes, the cities' enhanced SEAPs and best practice projects, and next steps. The cities will also discuss the key lessons learned during the STEP UP project and offer guidance and advice for others interested in sustainable city planning.

Two new STEP UP guides will be launched - one focused on developing Sustainable Energy Action Plans and the other on sustainable energy projects. Both will be available at the conference and on the STEP UP website from early May.

Anyone who would like to attend should formally register for the All-Energy Conference via the event website. This is free and can be done via www.all-energy.co.uk where more information on the conference can be found.
