Strathclyde Business School teaching staff have done well in the recent student-led Annual Teaching Excellence Awards, now in their 6th year, which took place on May 14.
Business school staff from all departments were nominated for the USSA awards which provide students with the opportunity to show their appreciation for the teachers that have gone above and beyond expectations in delivering learning and teaching.
Teaching staff were nominated by students in the categories of most supportive, innovative and enthusiastic teacher. Most supportive is for staff who had supported students through adverse personal circumstances; most innovative is for lecturers who had used innovative teaching methods for relevant course material and inspiring them to engage with their discipline outside of their course content; and most enthusiastic is for teaching staff who have shown incredible passion for subject areas and dedication to teaching, which inspired students to work harder and learn more.
Of the nominees, Doug Young (HRM) was shortlisted in the 'Most Supportive' category; Gillian Pallis (HRM), Paul Ferri (Hunter Centre) and Rodolphe Desbordes (Economics) were all shortlisted in the 'Most Innovative' category; and Andrew Marshall (Accounting and Finance) and Michael Marck (Marketing) both shortlisted for the 'Most Enthusiastic' category.
Andrew Marshall was the overall winner of the 'Most Enthusiastic' category university-wide. In the 'Best in faculty of Business' category Alex Dickson (Management Science), Michael Harker (Marketing), and Phil Taylor (HRM) were all shortlisted, with the winner being Phil Taylor.
Professor Tom Baum, head of HRM said, "The Department of HRM was delighted by the number of our staff and research students who were nominated for recognition in the recent University Teaching Awards. Particular congratulations go to Professor Phil Taylor who grabbed the gong for Best Teacher in SBS."
Professor Krishna Paudyal said, "I'm delighted Professor Andy Marshall won the "Most Enthusiastic Teacher Award" of the year . This excellent news reflects Andy's dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment to students' learning."
