Strathclyde Business School and PwC launch 'Powerhouse' series

Strathclyde Business School and PwC have organised 'Powerhouse' a series of events exploring key sectors of Glasgow's economy and how the city can be a powerhouse in each of these areas.

The first event took place on October 20. Speakers included Professor Eleanor Shaw, Head of the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship at Strathclyde Business School, Martin Cowie, private business leader, Scotland, at PwC; Alex Stewart, operating partner, Clyde Blowers Capital; Stewart White, CEO at Collagen Solutions.

The focus was on the growing number of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) based in Glasgow which now make up a significant part of our economy. With SMEs accounting for 99.3% of all private sector enterprises in Scotland, there’s a wealth of opportunities available in the city for these businesses over the coming years. The session looked at what Glasgow needed to do to attract and retain these businesses and how the city can foster more entrepreneurship.

Over the course of the programme series, discussion will focus on what tangible actions need to be taken to make Glasgow a powerful force over the next 10 years. Each event will feature a panel of experts from the businesses and institutions of Glasgow, and the audience are invited to add to the debate.
