Leading entrepreneurship expert is visiting professor at SBS

The University of Strathclyde has strengthened its position at the heart of entrepreneurship and innovation in Scotland with the appointment of an internationally-renowned academic.

Bill Aulet, who is managing director of the Martin Trust Center for Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Entrepreneurship, has taken up a position as visiting professor with Strathclyde Business School.

Strathclyde has been working closely with Bill for a number of years as part of the MIT Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Programme (REAP) Scotland team - and as a delivery partner in the series of Highlands and Islands Enterprise/Scottish Enterprise entrepreneurship masterclasses for high growth companies in Scotland.

The relationship was developed further during the summer at the new Scotland 'CAN DO' Scale international development programme.

Commenting on the appointment, Bill said, "It has been my honour and pleasure to work with Scottish entrepreneurs for the past 10 years through Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Scottish Enterprise. Through this connection we brought Scotland into the first Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Programme cohort and developed an even closer relationship with the academic institutions as well.

"They form a critical component of the entrepreneurship ecosystem and I look forward to raising the bar for entrepreneurship education, not just in Scotland but also for the entire world. This is a field that will see enormous advancement in the next few years and Scotland will be at the forefront."

Professor Eleanor Shaw, head of the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship and Vice Dean External Engagement and Enterprise, said, "Many entrepreneurs in Scotland have been inspired by Bill and his disciplined entrepreneurship approach, and we are delighted to have him as part of the Strathclyde team.

"Bill teaches this approach all over the world and has been delivering executive education for Scottish entrepreneurs for more than 10 years. As a leading international technological university, it is fantastic that Strathclyde has secured his expertise as a visiting professor.

"We are looking forward to working with Bill, the Scottish Government, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Scottish Enterprise and Entrepreneurial Scotland to deliver our collective ambitions for entrepreneurship in Scotland."

Donna Chisholm, regional head of Sectors, Innovation and Programmes at Highlands and Islands Enterprise, said, "Bill Aulet is an outstanding educator and practitioner in global entrepreneurship. Through this appointment, he strengthens MIT's relationship with Scotland, and this is a welcome development. The University of Strathclyde has again demonstrated an international business outlook and the desire to be world leading, which is exactly what Scotland wants."
