Dr Michael Marck welcomed former Strathclyde Marketing graduate Stefano Pessina, recruiter from BT (British Telecom), to his Honours Branding class on November 5. Stefano explained their graduate employment scheme to the honours class of 140 students.
To expand the student experience, a commitment has been made to students to bring recruiters where employment opportunities are available. Stefano said, "It's great to be back at Strathclyde and offer an outstanding employment opportunity to my fellow classmates from the Strathclyde Marketing department." There are numerous opportunities with BT for Marketing graduates, and the students truly appreciated having recruiters visit their lectures.
Thomas McAlinden welcomed Kenny Arthur (ex professional football player/goalkeeper for KA Goalkeeping) on January 6 and Rebecca Harwood Lincoln (Business Development Director for Swiss Eyewear Group) on January 8. Both gave guest speaker presentations to his Marketing Management class. Students enjoyed the presentations and commented on how valuable they found them.
Glen Gribbon, Director of Blended Scotch Whisky at Edrington Group, attended Dr Maria Karampela’s International Business Management Honours-year class on January 18. Glen is responsible for overseeing the number four selling standard whisky brand in the world, The Famous Grouse, selling over 30 million bottles annually. He also manages Cutty Sark, a brand with a strong footprint in Southern Europe and the US. Prior to joining Edrington, Glen spent three years as Managing Director at Vets Now, the UK's leading emergency out-of-hours veterinary network, turning over £26 million a year. Previously he was international sales and marketing director at Whyte & Mackay and was part of the Management-Buy-Out team in early 2000. Students enjoyed his presentation and had the chance to apply relevant theoretical knowledge in a real-business case study regarding the evaluation of an international business opportunity that Edrington is currently considering. Glen will be working more closely with the Department of Marketing in the future for the purposes of a Marketing Works project.
